The night my biggest childhood fantasy came true!

As I see it, there are two kinds of people out there: the ones who have (at least once) imagined spending the night in an empty furniture house and then the ones who're obviously lying.

I admit that the thought has crossed my mind several times throughout the years, as a child, as a teenager and even now, as a (somewhat) adult. It is therefore more than obvious that I was super (and I really mean: SUPER) excited, when I received an invitation to the annual XXXLUTZ Blogger Day that included – get ready – the option of spending the night in Vienna’s most modern furniture store. I didn’t think twice and accepted.

But I was even more excited when I heard that my Blogger BFF Shanice was gonna be there too, so we decided to meet beforehand already and then go there together because we both have this irrational thing where we hate showing up somewhere on our own. We know it’s weird but it’s also one of the reasons we get along so well, haha!

When we got there (a little too early… for once) the last shoppers were still in line at the cash desk and we were welcomed with a signature XXXLUTZ cocktail that apparently contained Gin, as I found out after having downed the second one. Well – whoops! 😉 Soon after our group was complete and what a lovely one it was! Alina from “The ladies” was there, two of the Cosmopolitas, Verena from “Who is mocca” as well as the girls from “Lisbia” – just to mention a few.

After the lights got turned off in the entire store, except for somewhere on the third floor which we all were really curious about, we were lead to the so-called „house of boxspring“ were each of us got assigned one of the many luxurious and most expensive beds of the house. The next surprise was a generous cosmetic bag by BIPA that provided us with literally everything we would need for a sleepover and a nice bathrobe including fuzzy socks from VOSSEN.

And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better: the scavenger hunt started. And oh my goodness was it a blast. We had to fulfill 6 tasks all around the (pitch dark) store house, each of them leading us to the next clue until we ended up on the mysterious third floor. Awaiting us there: the well known Austrian TV-cook Oliver (from „Koch mit Oliver!“), two professional baristas and a huge dining table – without seats, because we got to pick them ourselves from the kitchen department.

I think it’s needless to say that the dinner was simply delicious and alongside we got to test out 3 different Austrian wines that completely turned my aversion towards red wine around. Are you keeping count? So far it has been 2 Gins, 3 or 4 glasses of wine and a couple more Gins – just for the heck of it. Moods were lifting even further!

But anyways, the night has not ended yet! So one second we were still finishing our desserts and in the next we were already all changed into our pajamas and bathrobes, dancing our souls out in our fuzzy socks and to the beats of the DJ that got hired just for us. By midnight we were all buzzed and giggling, literally living our childhood dreams, just the adult & drinking version of it. Hours later, I honestly can’t recall when exactly, we left the third floor and went back downstairs to the beds were they’ve in the meantime set up a huge screen and a beamer for us to watch „Pretty Woman“. Shanice and I decided to share a bed and picked mine (because it had the better view to the screen, hehe) and it all felt like a huge sleepover with a bunch of friends. And that’s basically where my night ended because I fell asleep only 20 minutes into the movie, hahaha!

The next morning I woke up to a stranger touch to my shoulder and the whispered words „Alice, wake up! I’m bored.“ Right, that was Shanice disturbing my peaceful beauty sleep. After a short disoriented moment I was surprised to realize that I haven’t woken up even once during the night, despite of the unfamiliar surroundings and 10 other girls sleeping all around me. I blame it on the awesome bed, which in comparison to my IKEA mattress at home (no offense) felt like I was sleeping on clouds. The good friend I am, I got up with her and we silently made our way to the bathroom where we met some of the other ladies who were already up. And by the time we got back the others were already up as well. And even after ALL THAT, the awesome team from XXXLUTZ provided us with a breakfast goodie back which we all got to take home. They literally thought of everything and have – together with all the other kind sponsors – created a night none of us will ever forget.

And therefore I want to end this blog entry by sending another huge THANK YOU to everyone who contributed.
(In friendly cooperation with XXXLUTZ)
