If you were given a 1x1m canvas and a bunch of old jeans… What would you create?

Last weekend I was invited to the Urban Denim Art Star Finale 2016, organized by the Austrian fashion magazine Style Up Your Life and Pepe Jeans London. Earlier this year they launched a contest under the theme “from old, make new”, calling young artists, designers and creative minds to create art out of old and unusable jeans… And the outcome was amazing!

20 finalists, 20 pieces of artwork – all as different as they could be. One after another, they got the chance to present their work to the crowd and the jury, explaining what it represents and what inspired them in the process of creating it. It was interesting to see how these young people shaped their ideas into something real and touchable.

Afterwards the jury was given some time to grade each art piece and later in the evening the first 3 places were announced. At this point I’d like to congratulate not only the winner, Lisa Brandt, but also all the other participants who put so much time and heart in this project!

The most stunning aspect to me was to see how everyone thought of something else and also why they decided to create that. Some pieces I could relate to, which showed that the artist and me had (well, sort of) the same way of thinking while others completely caught me off guard!

For the rest of the night the guests could stay and enjoy a couple drinks on the beautiful rooftop terrace, have a closer look at all the art, get to know the other guests and – after some glasses – dance to the music the DJ played.

At this point I’d also like to thank Style Up Your Life & Pepe Jeans London for having me and compliment them to a highly successful evening!

The event took place at the  K47, a rooftop location in the heart of Vienna with a beautiful view. I wore a dress by (who would have thought) Pepe Jeans London and heels from Deimille that I got just recently.
